Hewitt sets up meeting with Baghdatis
(AAP) - Lleyton Hewitt has powered through to the quarter-finals of the Sydney International after a rousing 6-0 6-2 win over Andreas Seppi on Wednesday.
Hewitt put paid to a 1-2 career record against the Italian to set up a last eight
showdown with Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, a 7-5 6-3 winner over sixth seeded Serb
Viktor Troicki earlier on Wednesday.
Former world No.1 Hewitt looked in imperious touch, whipping through the first set
in just 21 minutes but faced more of a challenge in the second when he fell 2-0
down.
But that proved the smallest of hiccups as he powered through the next six games to
take the match.
In Wednesday's earlier matches former world No.7 Richard Gasquet of France strolled
to a straight sets victory over eighth seed Benjamin Becker of Germany.
American Mardy Fish is also through to the last eight after seeing off Evgeny
Korolev of Kazakhstan and will now face the winner of the match between Australia's
Peter Luczak and second-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych.
There were also second round victories for Potito Starace of Italy and Argentina's
Leonardo Meyer.
France's Aravane Rezai was the first woman through to the semi-finals after a
comfortable 6-3 6-0 win over Italian Flavia Pennetta.
