Two bombs wound 11 in southern border provinces
PATTANI, Jan 13 (TNA) – Two separate bomb attacks wounded 11 people at two markets in the southern border province of Pattani and Yala early Wednesday.
A bomb explosion at a tea shop at a market in Pattani municipality, wounded five persons. The remote controlled bomb was attached to a motorcycle without a license plate.
A man thought to be in his 30s parked it and the bomb was detonated by mobile phone five minutes later.
Three soldiers and three local residents were wounded at an entrance of a market in Yala municipality.
The two-kilogramme bomb was placed in an iron box near a shop. The area is in a regularly patrolled zone, which has security provided by soldiers everyday.
It is believed that the incident is the work of insurgents in response to stricter security measures to use vehicle identification stickers for motorists.
The continuing insurgency in the three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat has claimed the lives of more than 3,700 people since it erupted in 2004. (TNA)
