Analyst stresses to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue peacefully

Islamabad, Jan 13, IRNA -- Pakistani political and defence analyst Maj Gen. (Retd.) Jamshed Ayaz Khan on Tuesday demanded that the international community resolve Iran’s nuclear issue through dialog.

Talking to IRNA he said that an attack on Iran is not possible and the US is just giving threats to put pressure on Iran.

“War is not the answer of any issue, dialog is the only way to resolve different issues”, he suggested.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan viewed that US is not in position to bare the burden of war. “US is trapped in Afghanistan and Iraq. How can it afford to open another front in Iran?”, he said.

He opined that it is not the time of threats rather US should start a direct dialog to resolve all the issues with Iran.

Expressing his views on sanctions on Iran, the analyst said that it is probably not possible to get favorable results by imposing sanctions.

He said that positive impact of the sanctions is that they always give boost to the progress of the countries. “Countries under pressure always progress a lot”, he opined.

The analyst said that dual standards should not be adopted against Muslim countries. He said that many countries have ambitions for nuclear programs but the west is only putting pressure on Iran.

He said that Iran being signatory of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) has a right to use nuclear energy for peaceful means.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan added that Iran has been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and following the international law regarding its nuclear program.

He said that western countries and Israel are afraid of Iran’s progress and prosperity that is why they have been repeatedly questioning the credibility of Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme.

The analyst added that it is democratic, fundamental right of Iran to develop nuclear energy to meet its energy demands. “Iran should be allowed to develop its nuclear program to meet its energy demands”, he viewed.

Iran has faced three sets of U.N. Security Council sanctions over its refusal to freeze uranium enrichment activities but Iran, a leading OPEC oil producer, denies it is seeking nuclear weapons and says it aims to provide energy for its growing population when its reserves of fossil fuels run out.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan retired as a Major General in 2001 after serving for approximately 39 years in the Army including eleven years as a General Officer.

He is also the member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, the Asia Society, New York and the Rotary Club International. His name is also listed in the International who’s Who Historical Society’s list 2006-07./end
