Leighton wins $260m coal mine project
The world's biggest contract miner Leighton Holdings Ltd has won a $260 million
project to provide works for a coal mine in central Queensland.
Leighton subsidiary John Holland secured the 30-month mine operations contract for
the Isaac Plains Coal Mine, about two hours west of Mackay, the Sydney-based company
said in a statement on Tuesday.
The work will be provided for Isaac Plains Coal Management, which manages a joint
venture between Brazilian mining giant Vale and Aquilla Resources Ltd.
John Holland will clear, strip topsoil, drill and blast, remove waste, mine and
conduct rehabilitation works. The company was already operating under an interim
agreement signed in October.
The final agreement extended to June 30, 2012.
