Iranian-Syrian FMs seek ways for improvement of strategic co-op

Damascus, Jan 12, IRNA – Iranian and Syrian ministers of foreign affairs here Monday surveyed ways for improvement of bilateral strategic cooperation.
According to Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Information and Media Head Office, in the course of the two top diplomats’ negotiations Manouchehr Mottaki and Valid Muallem while surveying the ever onward trend of ties and cooperation in political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological and consular fields, stressed the need for taking new steps and for implementing new projects aimed at further strengthening of ties.
The two sides meanwhile surveyed the ground for the expansion of economic cooperation in construction of infrastructure facilities, rural development, industrial activities, and transfer of technology.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Syria reached agreements on lifting of the visa requirement that was in the agenda of the two countries’ priorities expressing hope that the required documents on the matter would be signed and exchanged in near future.
Consultations on regional developments, including the current developments and status in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan were in the agenda of the two foreign ministers’ Monday talks.
The two sides condemned the Zionist regime’s threats and committed crimes against the oppressed Palestinian nation, stressing the need for full restoration of their rights and an absolute end to the occupation of their lands.
Mottaki left Damascus on Monday evening having met and discussed issues of mutual interest with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and in separate meeting with his Syrian counterpart during is day-long visit of Damascus, and arrived in Tehran on Monday night./end
