Deputy Health Minister Manit resigns from post
BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nop-amornbodi announced Sunday that he had resigned from his post following government pressure and a public outcry over alleged ‘management flaws” in the ministry’s projects under the Bt86 billion stimulus packages.
His immediate superior Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai quit the post on December 29 over related charges.
Their resignations will facilitate Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s reshuffling his cabinet and the new list of ministers is expected to be submitted for royal endorsement this Tuesday.
Defending himself at a press conference, Mr. Manit said he did not have any role in the stimulus packages sponsored by the government. He did not intend to buy time or to reject the result of the investigation report on the scandal as he did not resign from the post earlier.
A Bhumjaithai Party spokesman said at the press conference that the party had not yet discussed who would replace Mr. Manit in the reshuffle. The resigned minister is a party member.
The issue will be decided by the party administrative committee and it is still unknown whether the party could forward the name to the prime minister before the Cabinet list is forwarded for royal endorsement on Tuesday, the party's spokesman added. (TNA)
