New York, United Nations, Jan 9, IRNA – Russian ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations on Friday, by supporting US and its allies' military expedition to Afghanistan said that such an action has special importance.
Vitaly Churkin was responding to IRNA's question whether military expedition can deteriorate the situation there said, "No, I believe such actions are specially important."
He continued that confrontation with Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan is necessary and all attention should be concentrated on this issue.
Afghanistan issue is to be discussed late January in a London meeting of foreign ministers of a number of countries and the Russian ambassador said that his country's foreign minister will attend the meeting, too.
Churkin also said that security affairs should gradually be transferred to Afghan forces.
In spite of Afghanistan and international efforts, security is vanishing in the country, he continued.
The Russia's ambassador also rejected the idea of talk with Taliban and radical groups in Afghanistan and said that negotiation will be done only with those who surrender their weapons and cut their relations with Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
Churkin also named a series of Moscow plans for infra-structures work in Afghanistan, including construction of a Polytechnic University./end
