BORDER CHECKPOINTS TO 24-HOUR REGIME

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ An irregular cabinet meeting held Friday issued a resolution after having discussed measures to be taken in coal export.
Pursuant to the resolution, the "Gashuun sukhait", "Shiveekhuren" and "Khangi" border checkpoints in Omnogobi province will transfer into the 24-hour regime in order to promote coal export.
For the time being, coal extraction has been made by companies in 36 deposits in Mongolia. Two of them are the state property-dominating companies, in three ones the local property dominates, the rest are working at private and foreign investments.
The last years' increase in investments for the coal extraction from the private sector has caused a sharp rise of coal extraction. Thanks to this, the country is completely providing its energy sector with coal, thus started exporting coal to China from late of 2003. As of the previous year, Mongolia exported 6.1 million tons coal to foreign countries.
