IN 19 PROVINCES WINTERING IS BECOMING SEVERE

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ According to evaluation by the State Emergency Commission, 198 soums of 19 provinces have been experiencing severe winter. Snow cover is ranging from 10 to 35 cm in steppe areas, 40-50 cm in lower slopes of mountains and 60-120 cm in places of snow-drift.
Roads and mountain passes have been by snow in some soums of Khovd, Gobi-Altai, Zavkhan and Bayankhongor provinces. It is reported that winter quarters and shelters for livestock have frozen.
In an unofficial estimation, about 322.000 domesticated animals have died in provinces of Gobi-Altai, Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi, Bayankhongor, Arkhangai, Arkhangai, Khovd, Khovsgol, Bayan-Olgii and Zavkhan.
