Zaragoza, June 12 (WAM) - Saqr Gobash, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC) will lead the UAE delegation to Expo Zaragoza 2008 which will take place from 13th to 14th June 2008 in Spain, it was announced here today.
The UAE is participating at the event in response to an invitation extended to President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan by King Juan Carlos of Spain.
"The UAE participation is therefore in line with the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed. It also follows on the decision of the UAE's Ministerial Council for Services to showcase the country's efforts in the areas of renewable energy and green cities", said Gobash in a statement to WAM.
More importantly, he said, the UAE views the gathering as an invaluable opportunity to showcase the country's efforts on "Water and Sustainable Development".
Gobash also hailed the preparations made for the UAE pavilions, saying it has been organised in such a way as to offer the most exquisite visual impact. This medium will underscore the judicious policies adopted by the UAE leadership to provide and conserve water resources. He noted that some eight documentaries featuring the achievements of the UAE in the area of sustainable use of water have been shot.
"The UAE participation in this international exposition along with 96 countries will enable us to showcase our efforts in provision of water, protection of the environment and search for sources of renewable energy", he said.
He added" 'We will sell and promote the UAE through information and tourism as per an innovative campaign in which the visitor of the exhibition will have insight about the UAE's role and contributions in the protection of the natural, wildlife and marine environment,' he said.
The event is being placed in a meander of the River Ebro. Some 104 countries, including the UAE, will take part in the expo.
