DEMBEREL MEETS UNDP PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE


Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ The Parliament Speaker met Thursday Mrs Debora Komini, a permanent coordinator of the United Nations (UN) and permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to Mongolia, in connection with her returning home.
Beginning the meeting, Demberel underlined the Mongolia-UNDP relations and cooperation had benefits and reached many achievements. "The UNDP has significantly contributed to reducing poverty, promoting the good governance and ensuring the sustainable development in Mongolia. Projects implemented by the UNDP in sectors of education, gender matter and in protection for infants and mothers gave their profits, in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)," said Demberel.
Mr Demberel emphasized an importance of support and attention from the UN for Mongolia to implementing the MDGs, and expressed a gratitude to Mrs Komini for contributions.
Mrs Komini thanked the Speaker for the audience and for cooperating and support her during the work in Mongolia from parliament. She said Mongolia has been developing a close cooperation with the UN for almost 50 years, and emphasized that in it parliament plays main role.
At the meeting, the sides pointed out a vital importance of a visit of Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, paid to Mongolia in 2009 and of opening the International Research Center for Landlocked Countries in Mongolia.
"The year 2011 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mongolia's joining the UN. This will be a key event not only for Mongolia but also for the international sphere," Demberel stressed.
The UNDP representative said the UN will continue its steady support to Mongolia in developmental urgent problems, mining and environmental sectors, population policy and social issues.
