Japan, India Ink Telecom Cooperation Pact



New Delhi, Jan. 6 (Jiji Press)--Japan and India on Wednesday inked
a pact calling for stronger bilateral cooperation in the information and
communications field.

The pact was signed by visiting Japanese Internal Affairs and
Communications Minister Kazuhiro Haraguchi and Telecom Regulatory Authority
of India Chairman J. S. Sarma.
Under the accord, Japan will help India build and expand
information infrastructure by providing advanced technologies including for
high-speed data communications.
Japan hopes more Japanese companies expand into India's information
and communications market which is growing fast with a rapid spread of
mobile phones.
Haraguchi is visiting India along with executives of four Japanese
companies including NTT DoCoMo Inc. <9437> and two industry groups.
