Iran president leaves Dushanbe for Ashkhabad

Dushanbe, Jan 5, IRNA – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wound up his two-day visit to Tajikistan and left for Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan, Tuesday morning.
Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Ahmadinejad arrived in Dushanbe Monday morning on the first leg of his two-nation Central Asian tour.
President Ahmadinejad was seen off by his Tajik counterpart Imomali Rakhmon.
Iran and Tajikistan inked three letters of understanding, two documents and one joint statement on bilateral cooperation on Monday.
Two out of the three letters of understanding were related to Tehran-Dushanbe cooperation in the field of constructing a dam and a power plant as well as a tunnel in Tajikistan.
The third letter was signed on extradition of criminals between the two capitals.
The Iranian and Tajik officials also signed two documents on cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy and mining activities.
Meanwhile, President Ahmadinejad and President Rakhmon signed a 12-article joint statement on promotion of bilateral cooperation and relations at the end of their private talks.
President Ahmadinejad also addressed a group of Iranian residents in Tajikistan Monday evening.
While in Turkmenistan President Ahmadinejad is to attend an inaugural ceremony of the gas pipeline project which would send natural gas from Turkmenistan to Iran.
