Carlton suspends trio over boat cruise

Carlton have suspended players Ryan Houlihan, Eddie Betts and Andrew Walker from the
club for a month after their drunken and inappropriate behaviour after a boat cruise
in December.
Houlihan and Walker were kicked out of Melbourne's Crown Casino after a scuffle with
security guards and Betts was arrested for being drunk in the city's CBD.
All were fined $5,000 by Carlton soon after the incident.
But the Blues increased their penalties on Monday when the players returned to
training after the holiday period.
All were banished for a month and ordered to train with the Northern Bull Ants VFL
team and were ruled unavailable for selection in this year's preseason competition.
"We know this will impact on their preparation for the home-and-way season," Carlton
president Stephen Kernahan said.
"The players are aware of the embarrassment and negative impact this has placed on
the club and everyone connected with the Carlton Football Club.
"Clearly, it was completely unacceptable."
Carlton captain Chris Judd said the entire playing list was responsible for the poor
behaviour and promised it would not happen again.
"We understand the privilege and opportunity that comes with playing AFL football,"
he said.
"Whilst I can only offer words today, I pledge that our actions in the future will
do justice to the commitment we have made to the club."
