Bushfires burning on Perth's outskirts
Residents of Perth's northeastern outskirts have been warned not to ride horses or
bikes while bushfires continue to burn through the area.
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) issued the urgent warning after
noticing people riding horses and bikes in Brigadoon, the scene of fires that have
threatened homes in the past 24 hours.
Earlier on Monday, people had been allowed to return home after the fires burnt
through about 240 hectares of bushland, destroying some sheds, fencing and
outbuildings.
They have been told to remain alert and ready to flee, as there are still active
pockets of fires that are out of control.
FESA warned residents to be aware of a large number of firefighters and machine
crews on dozers and loaders working in the area.
About 60 firefighters are still battling the blaze, which started on Sunday
afternoon in Millendon, near Range Road.
Three of the firefighters have suffered smoke inhalation and one treated for a knee
injury.
With temperatures forecast to reach 36 degrees Celsius on Monday, a total fire ban
has been declared for the Perth metropolitan area and surrounding shires.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has forecast extreme fire danger in parts of the
Central West region on Monday.
