Judiciary will deal firmly with rioters: Iran's Judiciary chief

TEHRAN, Jan. 4 (MNA) - The Judiciary will firmly deal with those who held violent riots in Tehran on December 27, the Judiciary chief said on Sunday.
“On my behalf and the judicial system I assure the dignified Iranian nation that the Judiciary will investigate seriously and speedily the incidents,” Sadeq Larijani told a meeting of senior judicial officials.
On December 27, which was Ashura day, protesters took to the streets in central Tehran and chanted slogans against top government officials. They clashed with the police and damaged public property. Some of them also committed acts that disrespected religious sanctities.
In reaction, hundreds of thousands of people held massive rallies in Tehran on Wednesday, expressing their disgust to rioters.
The slogans uttered by the people on Wednesday demonstrated their expectations of the judiciary “and therefore I should say that we heard these messages fully.”
He said those who held riots on the Ashura day were not in fact protesting the results of the election rather they are opposed to the Islamic system.
