Proposed budget welfare oriented, investment friendly, says CPD
Dhaka, Bangladesh, June 10 (BSS)-Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a non- government research organisation, today termed the proposed
national budget for the fiscal 2008-09 as welfare oriented and
investment friendly.
"The volume of the budget is not so big if we consider the issue of inflation and all the possible risks of economy could be tackled by implementing the budget fully," Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, executive director of CPD, said at a post budget press conference at BRAC center here.
Uttam Kumar Deb, Research Director, Fahmida Khatun, Director, and Khandaker Golam Moazzem, Director, among others, were present at the press conference.
Dr Rahman said local import and alternative industries would
be flourished speedily due to restructuring the tariff system introduced the in the proposed budget. But the export-oriented
industries should have more incentives, he opined.
The CPD chief also welcomed the proposal for duty reduction
on import of agri-equipment, which would contribute to increase
crop production.
Besides, the budget would also create food safety net for
increasing the subsidies on different sector including
agriculture. BSS.
