Persian Gulf int'l confab to be held in Tehran

Tehran, Dec 30, IRNA – The 19th Persian Gulf International Conference will be held on January 18-19, 2010 in Tehran.

According to the Foreign Ministry Political and International Studies Bureau on Tuesday, the 19th conference will be held under the title of ' Persian Gulf: Challenges and Regional Mechanisms'.

Political changes and developments in the Persian Gulf region and emerging world challenges like economic crisis, terrorism, war and consequences of Afghanistan and Iraq occupation, energy and environment crises all show that infra-regional states as well as international organizations should believe that Persian Gulf disputes have a direct connection to international crises and Iran, as the most geo-strategic country of the region has the ability to propose ways to solve the crises.

Issues like “Protection of Persian Gulf Environment as an axis for regional cooperation”, “ Iran and Persian Gulf Cooperation Council”, “ Persian Gulf security, ideas, approaches and mechanisms”, “ Expansion of militarism as a threat to Persian Gulf stability”, “ Consequences of world financial crisis and its effects on Persian Gulf region”, “ Stability in Iraq an axis for regional cooperation”, are to be discussed in the conference.
