Syrian FM: Ties with Iran beneficial to region

Damascus, Dec 30, IRNA – Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem in a meeting with deputies of Syria's Popular Assembly in Damascus on Tuesday called his country's ties with Iran 'excellent and beneficial to the region'.

Expounding on Syria foreign policy, he said the policy is more cooperation with East Asian, central Asian and South American countries.

Referring to the establishment of national unity government in Lebanon, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister Saad Hariri's visits to Damascus and their meetings with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Muallem said the relations have a strong base upon mutual respect and interest.

He also called Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz visit to Syria 'positive' with results which made bilateral cooperation more active.

Al-Muallem also talked about strategic relations with Ankara as well as the region’s peace process and strengthening bilateral ties with member countries of European Union./end
