`Best job` winner stung by jellyfish
The winner of Tourism Queensland's "Best Job in the World" has been stung by a
potentially deadly jellyfish.
Ben Southall wrote on his blog on Tuesday that he had a minor brush with the
potentially lethal irukandji jellyfish at the weekend while jet skiing in the
Whitsundays, in north Queensland.
"I was enjoying a post Christmas jet ski session with some friends at a quiet beach
on Hamilton Island and as I climbed off the back of the ski and onto the beach (I)
felt a small bee-like sting on my forearm," he wrote.
"I was feeling pretty hot and sweaty, had a headache and felt pretty sick too with
pain in my lower back and a tightness in the chest and a really high blood pressure.
"I had a minor brush with what can be a very serious jellyfish ... I really should
have been wearing a full stinger suit."
Mr Southall said he was feeling 100 per cent again.
A 38-year-old man was also stung by a irukandji jellyfish in the Whitsundays while
swimming off Long Island on Monday afternoon.
He was stung on the hand and transported to Bowen Hospital then airlifted to Mackay
Hospital on Tuesday morning.
A Queensland Health spokesman said the man was in a stable condition.
