US has no right to halt Iran uranium enrichment: Malaysian official
Kuala Lumpur, Dec 29, IRNA -- Legal advisor to former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday that the United States has no right to pressure Iran to halt uranium enrichment program in line with the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Matthias Chang made the remarks is an exclusive interview with IRNA's regional office in Kuala Lumpur.
Chang said that the US is suffering from failures in Afghanistan and Iraq, making efforts to draw attention of the world by imposing tougher sanctions on Iran.
He acknowledged the civilian nature of Iran's nuclear program, saying that economic sanctions will not affect Iranian economy.
Chang said that objections by China, Russia and member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement as well as many developing states to the US sanctions on Iran show global disagreement on this issue./end
