Qld police shoot man after knife threat

Police have shot a 38-year-old man in the leg after he threatened them with a knife
on the Gold Coast.
The officers were responding to a disturbance at a gated community in Tristan Court,
Benowa, on Monday afternoon when the man threatened them with a carving knife, a
police spokeswoman said.
She said an officer shot the man in the leg and he was taken to the Gold Coast
hospital.
Denis Sycz from the Queensland Police Union told Network Nine that the man had a
mental illness.
"He had a long history of mental illness and that has been known to local police,"
Mr Sycz said.
The man was believed to have been living with his mother.
