Fuel tanker explodes, two cars on fire
At least two cars caught fire when they collided with a fuel tanker on the NSW south
coast on Monday afternoon, causing an unconfirmed number of casualties.
The tanker collided with up to three vehicles about 4.50pm (AEDT) on Monday at East
Lynne, about 20km north of Batemans Bay, and exploded.
"There is speculation as to the number of fatalities but we will not speculate at
this stage," a police spokeswoman said.
"There's talk of two (deaths), there's talk of four but we do not have any
information on the fatalities at this stage."
The Nine network reported that up to five people had been killed in the accident,
with others injured.
The Princes Highway has been closed in both directions and motorists should avoid
the area.
