APPLE UNVEILS SECOND-GENERATION FASTER iPHONE WITH GPS CAPABILITIES

NEW YORK, June 10 (Itar-Tass) - Much-discussed and greatly anticipated second-generation iPhone has finally arrived and to many avid Apple enthusiasts it looks like a dream come true. As Apple, Inc. CEO Steve Jobs explained on Monday at the unveiling event in San Francisco, Ca, the new 3G iPhone has faster internet-browsing and download speeds, advanced GPS capabilities, a thinner, more streamlined design, and, perhaps most importantly to those turned off by the initial steep price of the first-generation iPhone, an incredibly competitive price tag. First and foremost on the list of new features is access to AT&T's 3G HSDPA network, which (for the less tech-savvy) translates into a significant boost in both download and web-surfing speeds, greatly outperforming the 2G EDGE network used by the current iPhone. Steve Jobs compared the speed of the 3G iPhone to that of a first-generation one and said it is roughly 2.8 times faster. In real terms, this means that it takes 21 seconds for a 3G iPhone to load a webpage, as opposed to 59 sec on an EDGE iPhone. The speed boost notwithstanding, the 3G iPhone also has some other exciting features: namely, GPS capabilities. As shown at the demonstration at the Worldwide Developers Conference held in San Francisco, the addition of GPS capabilities should help greatly in pinpointing the user's exact location (which has previously been achieved through the use of cell phone towers and Wi-Fi networks). The 3G iPhone has also received a visual upgrade: the body of the phone is thinner and sleeker, and the silver metal back has been replaced by plastic. For all of the news surrounding the features of the new iPhone, nothing is quite as important as its price tag of $199 which is 50%cheaper than last year's model.
