AZERBAIJAN NAMES BEST SPORTSMEN OF YEAR
Baku, 25 December (AzerTAc). The names of Azerbaijan`s best sportsmen for 2009 have been announced in a solemn ceremony on Thursday.
Two fold world wrestling champion Farid Mansurov has been named the best male athlete of the year.
Gymnast Aliya Garayeva, judoist Elmar Gasimov, athlete Ramil Guliyev, weightlifter Nizami Pashayev, chess player Vugar Hashimov, female wrestler Mariya Stadnik, taekwondo fighter Rashad Ahmadov, canoeist Valentin Demyanenko and paralympian Huseyn Hasanov were also honored.
Araz futsal club was named the best team of the year, while men`s national chess team the best intellectual team.
In other nominations: Firdovsi Umudov won the best coach , Day.az website won the best site, Neftchi Sports and Health Center won the best sport society, the Heydar Aliyev Sport-Concert Complex won the best sports complex, the Gymnastics Federation won the best federation awards.
