Molik gets wildcard to Brisbane event
Alicia Molik's return to tennis continued to gather pace with the former world No.8
granted a wildcard to the Brisbane International next year.
Molik, on the comeback trail after several years interrupted with illness and
injury, joins former world No.1 Justine Henin as one of the three wildcards for the
warm-up event for the Australian Open.
There is one more wildcard available for the main draw of the women's field, with
the three men's wildcards still to be announced.
Brisbane International tournament director Steve Ayles said he was excited to have
Molik play in Brisbane for the first time.
The news of her wildcard was delivered on Christmas Day, only a few days after she
received a wildcard to the season-opening grand slam the Australian Open next month.
"Alicia is a great story and it will be great to see her back in front of an
Australian crowd and I know the people of Brisbane will love her," Ayles said.
"She is great person on and off the court and I know she will give any opponent a
run for their money."
Molik joins a star-studded field that includes grand slam champions such as Kim
Clijsters, Ana Ivanovic and Henin, as well as Australia's Jelena Dokic.
"It will be great to see her come up against a player that will really push her to
the next level of her comeback," said Ayles.
