Bushfire eases on Sunshine Coast
A bushfire burning in a Sunshine Coast national park has eased slightly, authorities
say.
Winds of 30km/h had been making things difficult for fire crews trying to contain
the blaze in the Great Sandy National Park at Cooroibah on Thursday.
But conditions had eased slightly late in the day, a Department of Community Safety
spokeswoman said.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service
have been back-burning to protect homes along Cooroibah and Amaroo Roads.
Containment lines were also built along the Noosa River and a helicopter was
deployed to wet down areas and monitor the fire because of fears it could jump the
river.
Firefighters were continuing to wet down areas and would monitor the fire overnight,
the spokeswoman said.
Any residents concerned about fire approaching their properties should call 000.
