Deputy PM Suthep leaves for Indonesia to discuss rubber, palm oil cooperation

BANGKOK, Dec 23 (TNA) - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban on Wednesday left Bangkok for Indonesia on a mission to discuss about cooperation between the two countries on para rubber and palm oil.

Mr Suthep, assigned by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to oversee the prices of para rubber and palm oil, is leading the Thai delegates including Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Veerachai Veerametheekul and Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Supachai Phosu.

The deputy premier said before his departure that he targets the selling prices of para rubber prices should be over Bt80kg, while the palm oil at least Bt4.50kg.

"If the government achieves its goal, this will be coherent to the government's policy on crop revenue guarantee policy," said Mr Suthep. "The current prices are nearly close to our targeted level."

Mr Suthep emphasised that the prime minister gives importance to producer revenues as they are considered crucial base for the recovery of the country's economy.

The deputy premier said he expects the trip to Indonesia, the world's second largest para rubber planter after Thailand, will boost the cooperation between the two countries, resulting in the stability of para rubber prices. (TNA)
