Iran: Uranium will be enriched inside country, if not supplied by others

Cairo, Dec 23, IRNA – Iran's visiting Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that if other countries fail to supply necessary uranium for Tehran’s research reactor, it will enrich it inside the country.

Larijani made the remarks in a joint press conference with Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa after the two met over 90 minutes in the Egyptian capital.

Larijani is in Egypt since Sunday to attend the meeting of the Amendment of the Review Committee of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union.

As for the alleged assistance of Iran for the al-Houthi Muslims in Yemen, Larijani said, Tehran has absolutely never assisted the al-Houthis.”

The speaker stated that Tehran and San'a enjoyed friendly ties and that Iran would not spare any efforts to help Yemeni officials resolve the ongoing crisis in their country.

However, Larijani voiced Iran's complaint about the performance of its Saudi friends regarding the situation in Yemen.

“Our Saudi brothers would better not interfere in the issue,” said the speaker.

As for Iran’s strategy regarding the regional and international developments, Larijani said Iran was pursuing the strategy of establishing unity among Muslims.

“We believe that Shiite and Sunni Muslims are brothers,” he said./end
