Islamabad, Dec 23, IRNA -- A Pakistani political leader on Tuesday strongly opposed any military action against Iran, saying that the US will not be able to succeed in accomplishing its evil designs against the Islamic state.
Talking to IRNA, Senator Prof. Sajid Mir slammed the statement of US military chief Admiral Mike Mullen, which said that military action against Iran remains an option.
“The courageous and principled stance of Iran regarding its nuclear programme has always irritated US”, Sajid Mir added.
The lawmaker was of the view that the US wanted the entire world to obey its orders, ‘US has to shun the role of a war lord’.
“Diplomacy offers the best way to resolve tensions over Iran's nuclear program but the Pentagon must be ready with military options if needed”, said Mullen.
Sajid Mir said that the US has been threatening Iran for a long time but it had, so far, failed in Iraq and Afghanistan thus couldn’t afford to start another conflict with Iran.
He opined that if the US attacked Iran then it would be a great mistake and would place the whole area under a disastrous configuration.
“Actually US wants to save Israel which is an illegitimate state”, he viewed.
“Iran has always adopted a bold and upright stance on the issue of Palestine and against Israel”, he said. “Israel has become an aggressor under the umbrella of US”, Sajid Mir believed.
Western powers, especially the US, has been putting pressure Iran to roll back its nuclear programme, however, Iran being the member of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) refused to do so.
Sajid Mir stated that the strategy of pressure and coercion rarely produce desired results.
He said that approach of US might be able to influence a small weak power but a power like Iran, which is blessed with enormous energy resources, dictation is likely to produce exactly the opposite result.
He asked US to accept freedom of Iranian nation.
“It is strange that, on one hand, US is talking about peace in the world and, on the other, it is adopting more aggressive policies towards Iran”, said the political leader.
Sajid Mir opined that Iran being a sovereign state should not yield to any kind of external pressure over its nuclear program./end
