Larijani, Al-Azhar chancellor call for proximity among religions
Cairo, Dec 22, IRNA -- Iran's visiting Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Al-Azhar University Chancellor here on Tuesday afternoon called for making efforts for proximity among religions.
Ahmad Muhammad al-Tayyeb expressed hope that the meeting between Larijani and President Hosni Mobarak would open a new route toward bilateral ties.
He also expressed hope for expansion of cultural and scientific cooperation between al-Azhar and Iranian universities.
Larijani called Al-Azhar University an honor for the Islamic world and expressed hope that the Al-Azhar and Teharn University can get closer to each other.
Referring to the expansion of ties between Iranian universities and seminaries in the years after the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran, Larijani said, "We are waiting for an appropriate time to expand cooperation between Iranian universities and Al-Azhar University." /end
