AZERI CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER BRIEFS JOURNALISTS ON DECEMBER 23 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Baku, December 22 (AzerTAc). Chief of Azerbaijan Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov has today briefed journalists on preparation for tomorrow`s municipal elections.
Panahov said about 31 thousand candidates will compete for 15, 682 places in the elections. “All necessary conditions were created for them to conduct agitation”. He said the number of voters is about 4, 600 000.
According to Panahov, 4, 813 polling stations will operate during the voting. All constituencies and polling stations are ready for the voting, he added.
He pointed out international observers confirm that the list of voters meet European standards.
Panahov said 52 international and more than 49 thousand local observers will monitor the voting process.
He added international observers include representatives from the Council of Europe, European Union, members of diplomatic corps in Azerbaijan and other structures. “Mass media representatives are free to observe the process.”
Panahov said the voting will begin at 8.00 am and end at 7.00 pm.
He underlined to ensure transparency in the voting the webcams were set up in 500 poling stations. Anyone can observe the process online visiting the official website of the Central Election Commission, he added.
