Narathiwat still heavily affected by floods
NARATHIWAT, Dec 22 (TNA) – Thailand’s southernmost Narathiwat province, still heavily affected by floods, is expected to be more heavily and widely affected by flood drainage runoff into the Sungai Kolok River from the Malaysian state of Kelantan bordering Thailand.
Students in five districts of Narathiwat used boats to move from home to school after the water level in the province was still high due to Kelatan state irrigation authorities pumped floodwaters into the Sungai Kolok River causing the water overflow into households in Thailand.
The water level reached an average one metre deep and was expected to flood more areas in the province.
More than ten markets on both sides of the border were under water and could not operate as usual.
Narathiwat was severely affected by floods once earlier this month as the waters reached as high as 80-120cm, forcing the use of boats for transport, while numbers of local residents have contracted Athlete's foot and other water-borne skin diseases. (TNA)
