Iranian carmaker to produce powertrain

TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) - Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Company has achieved the required technology for designing and producing different types of automotive powertrains.


"We will supply the powertrain needed for 680 thousand vehicles by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2010), Ali Sheikhzadeh, IKCO deputy CEO said, according to the company’s public relations office.


Iran Khodro is the largest automobile producer in Iran. It was founded in 1962. IKCO has produced Iran's first "national car", the Samand, which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform. The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under license from the French firm.
