BAKU SLAVONIC UNIVERSITY TO HOST “DECADE OF SOLIDARITY” EXHIBITION
Baku, 21 December (AzerTAc). Embassy of Poland to Azerbaijan launches “The Decade of Solidarity – 1979-1989” exhibition. The event will take place on December 22 at Baku Slavonic University’s Center of Polish Language and Culture.
Organized by Karta Center under the support of the History Meeting House (Warsaw) by request of the Polish Foreign Ministry, the exhibition is devoted to the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.
The exposition includes archival photos, posters, drawings, written testimonies of eyewitness and source materials (records form the diaries and memoirs, quotations from newspapers and documents, excerpts from speeches) featuring the period of 80s of the last century.
A sentence by the British historian Timothy Garton Ash whereby he pays tribute to Poland, serves as a motto for the whole exhibition: "In Poland communism-fighting took ten years; in Hungary - ten months; in East Germany - ten weeks and in Czechoslovakia - ten days..."
