Iranian vocalist to give concert with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) -- Iranian vocalist Alireza Qorbani will be performing a concert in Canada with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) on January 10.

“This is the first time the VSO is slated to perform Iranian music,” Qorbani told the Persian service of the Iranian Students News Agency on Sunday.

He plans to commemorate the late Iranian santur virtuoso and musician Parviz Meshkatian by performing one of his compositions during the concert.

The performance will also include a repertoire of pieces by Iranian maestros Hossein Dehlavi, Ali Tajvidi, Kambiz Roshanravan, Milad Omranlu and several other musicians.

“The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s mission is to enrich the quality of life in and bring prestige to our city, province and country through the presentation of high-quality performances of classical and popular music, and the delivery of excellent education and community programs,” the founders say on the website of the VSO, which was established in 1919.

Qorbani performed “Zero Degree” concerts with the Iranian Chamber Orchestra at Tehran’s Milad Tower from December 10 to 12.

He has also performed the music for an Iranian TV series of the same name depicting Holocaust facts.

Qorbani has previously performed concerts with Iran’s National Orchestra, when it was led by its former prominent conductor Farhad Fakhreddini.
