Jets beat Fury 3-2 in Newcastle

Veteran striker Sasho Petrovski marked his milestone game with a winning goal as
Newcastle maintained their mid-season surge with a 3-2 win over North Queensland at
EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday.
Playing his 100th A-League game, the 34-year-old journeyman expertly spun and found
the net with an 82nd minute shot to ensure Newcastle equalled their franchise record
of four straight wins.
Petrovski, who came on at the start of the second half, had an early effort ruled
out for offside, though replays suggested the officials erred.
His late winner pushed the Jets back up to fourth spot and dented the Fury's chances
of a finals appearance in their maiden campaign.
Newcastle led 2-0 before a double from Dutchman Dyron Daal brought the visitors back
on level terms just after the hour.
Daal hit the post in the 15th minute but Newcastle subsequently took control of the
game in the next half hour.
His famous striking partner, former England striker Robbie Fowler, had a fruitless
afternoon, blazing either high or wide with three attempts.
Most of the goals were scrappy, like the game itself, but Newcastle had the most
polished player on the field in Korean midfielder Jin Hyung Song, who was
instrumental in each of the Jets' first-half goals.
His 24th minute corner wasn't dealt with by the Fury defence, with North
Queensland's Chris Tadrosse muffing an attempted clearance and putting the ball into
his own net with his second touch.
Song pounced and lashed the ball into the net to score Newcastle's second after
team-mate Labinot Haliti and Sean Rooney were foiled.
Daal, who had scored only two goals before Sunday's game, halved the deficit a
minute before halftime.
He drove the ball home after an attempted clearance by Tarek Elrich cannoned off
Adam D'Apuzzo.
Daal was on target again just after the hour when D'Apuzzo made a hash of another
clearance.
Fury were off target with a number of late shots from Fowler Jeremy Brockie and
substitute Daniel McBreen, who replaced Daal in the 77th minute.
Matthew Smith went close with a late header for Fury after Petrovski had put
Newcastle ahead.
