Jeev clinches Austria Open, ends title drought

Vienna (Austria), June 9 (PTI) - Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh lifted the Bank Austria Golf Open to end an agonising 18-month title drought, which also earned him his third European Tour triumph here Sunday. The Chandigarh pro reeled off 18 consecutive pars for a 54-hole aggregate of 15-under 198 for a one-shot victory over England's Simon Wakefield, who returned a 68 in the final round. The triumph at the Fontana Golf Club is the third European Tour victory for Jeev after his twin Volvo titles -- in China and Spain -- in 2006. The Indian took home a purse of 3,36,645 dollar from the 2.02 million dollar event. The win marks the end of the title drought that saw Jeev finish runner-up in two Asian Tour events -- the inaugural Ballantine Open in South Korea, where he was beaten in the playoff, and the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open.
