Malaysian IAEA governor dismissed
TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – The Malaysian head of the International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors, Datuk Mohd Arshad Hussain has been dismissed over voting against the board’s resolution against Iran’s nuclear activities, an informed source told the Mehr News Agency in Vienna on Saturday.
Malaysia had previously recalled its envoy for the vote.
The IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution against Iran on September 30. The resolution criticized Iran for beginning construction of a new uranium enrichment facility at Fordu, near Qom, and demanded that it immediately halt its construction.
Twenty-five members voted in favor of the resolution. Malaysia, which was the president of the IAEA Board at the time, Venezuela, and Cuba voted against the resolution, and Afghanistan, Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, South Africa and Turkey abstained. Azerbaijan Republic representative was absent during the vote.
