Tomic, Dellacqua eye tennis wildcards

Australian tennis prodigy Bernard Tomic is just one more win away from a berth in
his second Australian Open grand slam event.

Tomic will play NSW's Nick Lindahl in the final of the Australian Open play-off on
Sunday, with the winner receiving a wildcard into first grand slam of 2010.
Fourth seed Tomic recorded a straight sets victory over fellow Queenslander Kaden
Hensel in the semi-finals at Melbourne Park on Saturday while Lindahl beat fifth
seed John Millman 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 7-6 (7-3).
Reigning junior US Open champion Tomic, 17, said he would go for broke in the final
against Lindahl.
"It would be great to have that wildcard, and I'm going to fight for every ball (on
Sunday)," said Tomic.
"If I lose I lose. If I win I win."
Lindahl won't give in lightly, he was two points from defeat to Millman before
fighting back in the second set tie-breaker.
"I'm feeling a bit tired now, but pretty happy," he said.
"I feel confident ... I just want to play my best tennis and see how I go. I've been
defending really well and today I attacked pretty good, so hopefully I can put both
of those together tomorrow."
Comeback queen Casey Dellacqua will face top seed Olivia Rogowska in the final of
the women's Australian Open playoff.
Dellacqua fought back from a set down to defeat Sally Peers 2-6 6-1 6-2 while
Rogowska accounted for West Australian Jess Moore in straight sets 6-2 6-2.
Fighting back from a season ravaged by injuries, Dellacqua said the playoff
tournament has been an ideal way to ease back into competition after a difficult
2009.
"Every match this week has been good for me and I've been learning a bit from each
game," said Dellacqua.
"You always have that hope that you're going to get to the final. I didn't know how
I was going to go this week and didn't know how I was going to perform, how I was
going to play because I haven't had a lot of court time so I am just excited to be
in the final.
"I'm playing some good tennis and my goal is for 2010 and this has obviously been a
great start for me for my first tournament back for a whole year, pretty much.
"This is why you play tennis, and I need to be in situations like this, in finals.
"It's been a long time for me that I've been in a tournament, let alone played a
final so (Sunday's) a great situation for me to be in just to go out there, play my
best tennis and see where I'm at again.
"It's been a big week for me and I've played a lot of matches so it's been a perfect
lead-up to 2010 for me so far."
Rogowska and Dellacqua met in the round-robin earlier this week, with Dellacqua
stunning the top seed for a 7-6 (12-10) 6-0 victory.
