Iran Intl. Storytelling Festival honors foreign participants

TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (MNA) -- The foreign participants of the 13th International Storytelling Festival were honored during the closing ceremony at Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) on Thursday.


Foreign participants, including storyteller and director of the Beyond the Border Wales International Storytelling Festival David Ambrose, British storyteller Godfrey Duncan, Irish storyteller Niall de Burca and Nazarku Rahmanov from Kyrgyzstan, were honored at the ceremony.


Attended by several officials and artists, the festival announced the winners during the ceremony.


Over 800 stories were received by the secretariat of the festival out of which 35 stories were selected for competition, the secretary of festival Abbas Tariqat mentioned during the ceremony.


The Iranian storytellers competed with 15 of their counterparts from the eight countries of England, Sweden, Ireland, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Tajikistan and several more during the event.


The festival was held in four sections, namely Free Storytellers, IIDCYA Storytellers, the Selected Storyteller in Choosing a Story and Selected Storyteller in Personal Activities.


Golab-Ali Davudbeigi (Zanjan) and Shirin Samadi (Isfahan) was awarded at the Free Storytellers Sections.


Mohammad Rahmani (Isfahan), Hamidreza Mardomi (Tehran), Golnar Dadluii (Zanjan), Toktam Araban (Gilan) and Roqieh Dust-Fatemiha (Yazd) were selected at the IIDCYA Storytellers Section.


Mahtab Shahidi (Tehran) became the Selected Storyteller in a Choosing Story and Fakhri Ghaffarian (Mazandaran) was awarded as the Selected Storyteller in Personal Activities.


At the ceremony, David Ambrose expressed his delight over participation at the gala saying that it was a great chance for him to get introduced to Iranians and their hospitability.


He also told the story of a blind man who sees with his ears and hears with his heart, which was warmly welcomed by the audience.


Azra Vakili, Gholam-Ali Kiumarsi and Asadollah Shokraneh were the members of jury.
