Justice is essential for sustained security: official

TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (MNA) – Saeed Jalili, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, counted justice as a crucial factor to ensure a long-term security.

The senior security official made the remarks in a meeting with prosecutors on Wednesday, stressing the need to preserve national and public rights.

Pointing to the June presidential election, he said the judiciary should defend the voters’ rights against the movements which have been trying to cast doubt on the result of the election.

The recent presidential election was a turning point in the history of the Islamic Revolution, he said, adding the nation proved the dignity of Islamic Republic to the world.

He went on to say that those who dare to undermine the national achievements and the country’s stability should not have a safe margin.

Political competition vital for political stability

Jalili also regarded political competitions as essential to maintain political stability.

He went on to say that any effort to change legal mechanisms for the political competitions threatens national security and stability.

It is the judiciary’s duty to safeguard the nation’s fundamental rights, he added.
