AZERBAIJAN SENDS NOTE TO USA
Baku, 18 December (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry has sent a note to the Government of the United States of America in a protest to the Congress` decision to allocate $8 million in a financial aid to Nagorno-Karabakh in 2010.
The document was handed over to the US Department of State`s officials by Azeri Ambassador in Washington Yashar Aliyev.
The note expresses Azerbaijan`s “deep concern” over the case.
“Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding regions have still been under Armenian occupation. The US Government`s conducting any activities - without official Baku`s consent - in Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan`s territories occupied by Armenia, contradicts the United States` official statements in which the country voiced support for Azerbaijan`s internationally recognized sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the document underlines.
“This will be considered as support of the US Government for the Armenian separatist regime in Azerbaijan`s occupied territories and will lead to the continuation of occupation.”
“The move will have a negative impact on efforts to solve the conflict and undermine the USA`s reputation of a just and objective mediator as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group,” the note concludes.
The US Department of State vowed to respond to the note shortly.
