AZERI DEPUTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MINISTER MEETS CHAIRMAN OF ASTRAKHAN OBLAST`S GOVERNMENT

Baku, December 16 (AzerTAc). Deputy economic development minister of Azerbaijan Niyazi Safarov has met today visiting chairman of government of Russia`s Astrakhan oblast Konstantin Markelov.
Safarov briefed Markelov on the ongoing economic reforms in his country.
He said in spite of the global financial crisis, there had been strong economic growth in Azerbaijan over 10 months of the current year.
According to him, President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to Russia and Dmitry Medvedev`s trip to Azerbaijan contributed to boosting bilateral cooperation even more.
Safarov pointed out the volume of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia increased 26 percent in 2008 to exceed $1.9 billion.
About 100 documents were signed between the two countries in economic sphere, he added.
Konstantin Markelov, in turn, said nearly 18 thousand Azerbaijanis live in Astrakhan and more than 20 Azerbaijani businessmen work in the oblast.
He underlined the importance of possible opening of Azerbaijan`s diplomatic representation in Astrakhan in terms of expanding “our bilateral relationship”.
Following the meeting, a presentation of investment potentials of Azerbaijan and Astrakhan was held in Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO).
