AZERBAIJANI COMMUNITY OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH SENDS LETTER TO US PRESIDENT
Baku, 16 December (AzerTAc). The Public Association “Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Azerbaijan Republic” sent a letter to the president of the United States of America Barack Obama.
The letter, signed by the head of community, chief Executive Power of Shusha region Bayram Safarov, says: “The Nobel Peace Prize you were awarded recently for strengthening of security and peace in the world gave us hope that to the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan will be put an end. It is very important, that the USA as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group intensified the mediation mission and have forced leaders of Armenia to liberate the occupied Azerbaijani lands. Capture of territories by force and legitimization of power on the occupied territory under cover of the right of self-determination of the people contradicts international legal principles.”
In the letter, it is underlined that allocation by the US Congress to the separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh of 8 mln US dollars at the stage of carrying out of peace talks between presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan causes feeling of deep regret in the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh, as support of the separatist regime, which is carrying out the policy of ethnic cleansing, and which ousted the Azerbaijani community from their native lands, and the leadership of Armenia, is the factor which can lead to balance infringement in regard with the communities of Nagorno Karabakh.
The letter warns that this step of the US Congress can toughen position of the leadership of Armenia holding non-constructive position on peace talks, and serve the separatist regime as its recognition.
It is regretfully underlined that it is difficult to explain that the Azerbaijani community which has mostly suffered is forgotten when there is assistance to the Armenian community of region. The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh, as well as the Armenian community of region, has the right to live in Nagorno Karabakh
The letter further says: “For the quick settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict first of all it is necessary, that the Azerbaijani community driven from region has come back to their homelands. Establishment of relations between the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities of the region, based on trust, will bring positive contribution to the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The first meetings between communities have already taken place. Now, the demand of the 65 thousand Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region shows equal approach to both communities, and any political, economic and financial support will promote settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As long as the conflict is not solved, it is impossible to establish the long-term peace and cooperation in region”.
The letter ends with the words: “We believe in Your activity which serves the peace, and request to use presidential powers for prevention of similar unilateral actions and ensure justice”.
