Draft resolution on “Norooz Int'l Day” presented to G77, OIC
New York, United Nations, Dec 16, IRNA – The Draft resolution on
“Norooz International Day” was presented to G77 and OIC member states by Iran’s permanent representative to the UN.
In case of approval of the resolution, Norooz will be considered as an international occasion by the UN.
Delegations of Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan in the United Nations in a joint initiative have compiled the draft resolution.
The draft resolution was signed by aforementioned countries' ambassadors on November 23, 2009 in the UN as “ Main sponsors of the resolution “ and then submitted to other countries for support.
The draft, by referring to the UN Charter, World Declaration of Cultural Diversity, International Convention on protecting spiritual cultural heritage, said that Norooz as a symbol of cultural unity has been observed for more than three thousand years in a wide geographical area of the Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasus , Black Sea region, Balkan and other areas in the world.
Norooz is a custom in direction of strengthening connections among people upon mutual respect, peace and good relations and culture of a life compatible with nature and the environment./end
