German-Iranian film vie for top award at Berlin Film Festival

Berlin, Dec 16, IRNA -- A German-Iranian film production, directed by Rafi Pitts, will be among 26 entries to compete for the top prize at the 60th Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale), scheduled to be held in the German capital from February 11 through 21 .

Pitts' "Shekarchy" (The Hunter) will make its debut at the renowned Berlin film festival.

The movies features Rafi Pitts, Mitra Hajjar, Ali Nicksaulat and Hassan Ghalenoi.

The film dwells on the story of a mechanic, named Ali who in an act of vengeance randomly kills two police officers.

He escapes to the forest, where he is arrested by two other police officers.

The three men are surrounded by trees in the woods.

They are lost in a maze, a desolate landscape, where the boundaries between the hunter and the hunted are difficult to perceive.

Iranian movies have won several top awards at the Berlinale in recent years.

According to the head of the Berlinale Dieter Kosslick, many good Iranian movies cannot be screened at the Berlin film event because they are showcased at Tehran's Fajr Film Festival which takes place at the same time./end
