Iran ready to mediate in Karabakh dispute

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) – Ramin Mehmanparast, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, announced Iran’s readiness to mediate between Armenia and Azerbaijan to settle of the dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Mehmanparast made the remarks in his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Referring to the Azerbaijani foreign minister’s trip to Tehran, the speaker said this trip has been made in keeping with a policy to boost ties with the countries in the region.

Yemen is torn by foreign plot

On the armed conflict between the Al-Houthi group and armed forces in Yemen, the spokesman said that Yemen has become engaged in a predicament incited by Western powers to create a schism among various groups in the country.

He said Iran holds the view that negotiation is the best way to settle the dispute in the Arab country.

“Regarding disputes in Yemen, we believe that the priority should be given to peace, territorial sovereignty, and unity,” he added.

Iran’s view on nuclear fuel swap not changed

The Foreign Ministry official also said Tehran’s view on trading nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor is still the same.

Iran has demanded a 100 percent guarantee that it will receive the 20 percent enriched uranium if it agrees to a trade for its low-enriched uranium.

On Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki disputed the Western claims that Tehran has rejected the proposal to exchange its low-enriched uranium for 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor.

Mottaki said Iran is ready to exchange 400 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium on Kish Island in the Persian Gulf.
