Majlis supports joint investment with Azerbaijan

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) – Iran’s parliament will support joint investment projects with the Republic of Azerbaijan, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday.

There is great potential for investment in oil, gas, energy, and industrial projects, Larijani told visiting Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

The Majlis has been a proponent of strong ties with Azerbaijan and it will support any legislation to facilitate joint investment, the speaker added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he called for further talks between Iran and Azerbaijan in the light of incidents in the highly sensitive Caucasus region.

Commenting on the recent developments particularly in the Caucasus, Larijani said the presence of any foreign forces in the region will only complicate the situation to the detriment of regional states.

It is essential that the regional nations cooperate to help resolve problems facing the region, he suggested.

He also said the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, a thorny issue between Azerbaijan and Armenia, can be resolved through talks.

Larijani said that outside powers do not want the crisis to be solved smoothly and immediately.

Mammadyarov also said Baku seeks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh issue through diplomacy.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the senior Azeri official stated the parliamentary cooperation is highly important in expanding ties between the two neighbors.

He said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to its ties with Tehran.
