IMPORTANT EVENTS IN CULTURAL AND SPORT SECTOR

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Important events occurred in 2009 in cultural and sport sectors have been named as following:

1. Honored Athlete and Olympic silver medalist P.Serdamba became the first Mongolian to achieve the title of a world champion in boxing when he won the gold at the 15th world amateur world championships in Milan, Italy. The other Mongolian successes were 17-year-old N.Tugstsogt who won a silver medal and U.Munkh-Erdene who won a bronze. The championship featured 544 boxers from 133 countries who competed in 11 weight categories.
2. Kh.Tsagaanbaatar became the first Mongolian to win a gold medal at a World Judo Championship held in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In addition, he won gold medal in World Sambo Wrestling Championship.
3. Female wrestler O.Burmaa won a silver medal at the World Free Style Wrestling Championship.
4. Prominent chess player T.Batchimeg got the title of grand international master of chess.
5. D.Ochbadral won a gold medal in Judo Deaflympics receiving a title of State Honored Sportsman of Mongolia.
6. U.Byambajav became the Champion of the World Amateur Sumo Championship in the USA.
7. A team of Mongolian creative workers won gold medal at the International Cultural Olympics held in the Republic of Korea.
8. 9th Bogd, reincarnation of 8th Bogd Javzandamba, visited Mongolia at the invitation of his believers and prayers.
